Abstract

A composition for lining a casting mould for metals comprises 82-94% by weight of a refractory filler material, 3-9% of organic fibrous material, and 1-8% of a binding medium. Up to 2.5% of a fibrous refractory material for example asbestos or rock wool may also be present. The binding medium may be a synthetic resin composition. A carbamide resin may be used. Quartz and other silicon compounds are specified as refractory filler material, and mechanical wood pulp and waste paper are used as organic fibrous material. The mixture is slurried in water, applied to the mould and then dried at 120-200 DEG C. Specification 888,857 is referred to.
