Abstract
A hot-top (see Division B3), for an ingot mould, includes panels made from granular refractory filler, asbestos having a combined water content of less than 6% and a binder such as a phenolic or other resin. The filler may be 200 mesh silica sand or diatomaceous earth, magnesia, alumina or forsterite 70-90 parts; the asbestos may be amosite, crocidolite, anthrophyllite or tremolite asbestos 5-10 parts; and the binder may be 5-10 parts. Up to 2% of ground wood fibre, cardboard shavings and/or paper pulp may be included. The materials are mixed with water and the mixture moulded into panels, e.g. by a vacuum and screen method, before drying in an oven. The composition claims are restricted to amosite asbestos but not to a specific water content.ALSO:A hot top (see Division B3), for an ingot mould, includes panels made from granular refractory filler, asbestos having a combined water content of less than 6% and a binder such as a phenolic or other resin.
