960,114. Making nails etc.; rolling. G.K.N. GROUP SERVICES Ltd. Aug. 9, 1962 [May 11, 1961], No. 17170/61. Headings B3A and B3M. A method of producing fastening elements such as nails and pins comprises cold rolling rod-like stock between rolling surfaces each having a groove incorporating a head and a point forming portion, the point forming portion being provided with an obliquely extending ridge which serves to penetrate the stack to form point portions. Round mild steel, brass, or aluminium stock 16 is rolled to oval section in driven guide rolls 19 and then rolled between profiled rolls 21 to form a string of connected nails. The point portions of the stock are formed in a recess banded by ridges 30, excess metal, in the form of ribs 12, which are later removed, being accommodated in recesses 28. A shaped recess 33 banded by a ridge 34 forms the head portions. Several nail impressions are formed on each roll.
