Abstract
959,721. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd., and D. B. SPALDING. May 10, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 19150/62. Heading F1N. One end 21a of a pressure, exchanger cell 20a is open whilst the other end is controlled by a continuously rotating valve 28 which connects said end through valve ports 28a, 28b to one or other of ducts 26, 27 alternately and at predetermined intervals. As shown the valve 28 which is driven by an electric motor 30 also controls a second cell 20b and when used as a pressure equalizer, ducts 26, 27 are connected to high and low pressure gas sources and gas at an intermediate pressure is discharged through open ends 21a, 21b of the two cells. For use as a pressure divider, the open ends of the cells are connected to an intermediate pressure source and gas at higher and lower pressures are discharged through ducts 26, 27. The high pressure inlet and outlet ducts may be connected to the by-pass stream of a by-pass gas-turbine engine and to a vessel to be evacuated respectively. Specification 959,722 is referred to.
