A vehicle roof which may be in one or more parts is provided with depressions or steps adjacent the side edges and hand-grips are provided as separate members inserted between the roof parts at the joints or one edge of one or both roof parts may be displaced to form a rail or a luggage carrier support. In Fig. 2 the side roof part 12 is preferably provided with an inner panel 11 and is secured to the joggled edge of the roof panel 13 which preferably has a stiffener 14 the resultant joint forming a suitable attachment for a handgrip 16. In Fig. 7, a separate joining strip 33 may provide a hand-grip 34 and in Fig. 8 the panel 21 is formed with the hand-grip 38 and the panel 22 with the luggage support 39. The side panel and central parts of the roof may be upwardly flanged and have a dumb-bell or T-shaped member secured between the flanges. Specification 936,989 is referred to.
