A device for securing the closure member 2 to a soda-lime or other canister 1 comprises an annulus 6 of rubber-like material having a surface 7, for abutment against the end of the canister, a skirt portion 8 projecting from the annulus and adapted to overlap and seal against the wall of the canister, an annular lip, around the upper edge, to grip the closure member 2 and supporting means 11 extending inwardly from the annulus to hold a gas pervious element 13, such as a perforated plate. This plate holds the granules of reagent under a slight degree of compression and prevents their escape. If desired, the skirt portion 8 may have an internal bead 9 for engagement with a complementary groove formed around the wall of the canister.
