Abstract

873,158. Piston packing; stuffing-box substitutes. WILD & CO. Ltd., A. G. March 22, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 41481/58. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A readily-compressible sealing ring for fitting either on a piston or in a cylinder has flat parallel sides 11, 12, a convexly-rounded sealing surface 13, and a flat portion 14 disposed between two chamfered or curved edge portions 15, 16. The ring is compressed in a groove in a piston between washers 3, 4 of which the washer 3 is urged axially by a component 5. In a modification, the washers 3, 4 are formed with flanges 20, 21, Fig. 4, which extend over the side portions of the ring. When used in a groove in the inner wall of the piston, the convex surface 13 is arranged for sealing contact with the piston.
