Abstract

958,417. Cap-Closures. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. June 5, 1962 [Nov. 8, 1961], No. 40071/61. Heading B8T. A cap closure, e.g. of polyethylene for a bottle or like container comprises an annular stopper 4 and skirt 1 depending from a crown 2, which is of such a thickness that it flexes away from the rim 7 of the container when the gaseous pressure inside the container reaches a predetermined value. The stopper 4 has converging sides 5 which engage the interior of the container neck 3 to seal the container except when the pressure is so great that the crown 2 flexes, and the gas escapes through an opening, Fig. 4 (not shown). Pads 6 are provided on the interior of the crown 2 to provide spaces to facilitate venting of the container.
