958,260. Delivering sheets. BUCCICONI ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 24, 1961, No. 26684/61. Heading B6H. Metal sheets S, Fig. 1, are fed in succession, for example from a shearing machine, by an overhead conveyer 11 towards an end stop mechanism 23, Figs. 1 and 3, and released for deposit on a pile on a vertically movable table 21 in front of said mechanism and between it and a back stop mechanism 24, the mechanism 23 comprising a resilient main bumper pad 36 mounted for cushioned horizontal movement on the impact of a sheet edge, and a resilient auxiliary bumper pad 61 mounted for vertical movement from a lower position in front of the pad 36 to an upper inoperative position, and the mechanism 24 comprising a main back stop plate 105, Figs. 7 and 8, having associated therewith chains 111 for moving vertically, under hydraulic control, a stagger bumper device 110 between a lower position in front of the plate 105 and an upper inoperative position (shown in broken lines in Fig. 8), the auxiliary bumper pad and the stagger bumper device being controlled by means operative on the delivery to the conveyer of a predetermined number of sheets. The conveyer is magnetic and comprises a plurality of laterally spaced belts 15, and a switch control arm 20 is engaged by each sheet to shut off the magnetism. The sheets are reached in alternate batches in two longitudinally staggered positions according to the positions of the pad 61 and the device 110, which are controlled respectively by pneumatic cylinders 80, 134, which are actuated by valves controlled by sheet counter responsive to a magnetic or photo-electric detector. The mechanism 23 is mounted on a carriage 25 longitudinally adjustable by screws. In the inoperative position, the device 110 rests between two sheet guiding rollers 165, Figs. 6, 7 and 8. The sheets are guided in a lateral sense by elongated guide housings 173 adjustable laterally by a screw 175, and the lateral movement of the guide housings is kept uniform by means of a shaft 176 in each housing carrying at each end a pinion 177 engaging a transverse rack bar 178. The pad 61 is supported on a vertically movable carriage 67, and the carriage 67 and the device 110 carry respective pivotal members 90, 156 extending under the batch of sheets to prevent each sheet from dropping below the pad 61 or device 110. When the pad 61 or the device 110 is raised, the respective member 90 or 156 is swung downwards by the sheets against spring action.
