Abstract

1312038 Feeding sheets G A B GADLER 16 June 1971 28095/71 Heading B8R A feed device for transferring sheets in batches 12 from a pile 13 thereof, e.g. to a sheet cutting apparatus 1, comprises a reciprocable feed carriage 8 having finger extensions 15 at the edge thereof facing the pile 13 and having a rotatably driven feed roller 17 for engaging, when the carriage 8 is advanced towards said pile, underneath the uppermost one 23 of a plurality of rails 28 inserted to divide the pile into batches, the pile being supported on an adjustable pile support 20 and a control member being provided for lifting the rear edge of the separated batch as the carriage reaches its limit of advance. The control member comprises a plate 19 having a lip 31 which engages the edge of the batch and lifts it as guides 18 on the extensions 15 engage and lift rollers 32 on the plate. The pile support may be lifted by a screw device controlled by a photo-electric pile height detector 33. The carriage 8 and worktable 5 of a guillotine cutter 4 include batch receiving surfaces having air nozzles (11), Fig. 1 (not shown), operated by the weight of the batch acting on ball valves (not shown), for supporting the batch. Limit switches control carriage movement and operation of the guillotine and an air compressor.
