[Also in Division F4] A combined drying unit and storage bin for granular material has an open top to receive the material into a storage chamber 3 enclosed within plenum chambers 5 from one or more of which heated air under pressure circulates by way of ducts 33 and is forced through the material from all the sides of the storage chamber to its centre. The ducts 33 extend laterally along the walls 1. Fig. 2 shows a vertical section through a bin of rectangular cross-section which has a hollow plenum chamber 5 at each of its corners formed by holes 8 to the ducts 33 which are formed on the inside of the side walls 2 by laterally extending baffle plates 10 fixed along the wall ridges 7 and open along the bottom at 13. An air input 15 feeds the chamber 5 with air, which may reach adjacent chambers 5 by way of external ducts 18 or 18<SP>1</SP>, or by way of the ducts 33. When the material is insufficient to cover all the ducts the top holes 8 may be closed by discs or by manually operated poppet valves (not shown). The central discharge tube 4 is perforated, and has a cone at its bottom and a cowl 30 at its top. A damper may be provided to control the air-flow. The bin may be grouted into a solid floor and multiple units may be arranged with interconnecting plenum chambers.
