Abstract

957,431. Valves. N. H. HAENKY, and V. J. HAENKY. Aug. 18, 1960, No. 28600/60. Heading F2V. A rotatable plug valve comprising a body 2 having aligned inlet and outlet ports 5, 6 in a common plane with the axis of the rotatable ported plug 3, is combined with a non-return check valve clapper 4 housed in a chamber 10 of the body and which is adapted to seat by gravity against a back wall of the chamber surrounding the inlet port 5, the clapper being mounted on a pivotal axis 25, Fig. 6, which lies in a plane at right angles to the said common plane and is inclined at an acute angle to this common plane, the arrangement being such that the clapper 4 swings into the port 18 of the plug in open position of the latter and is positively seated against the back wall of the chamber 10 by movement of the plug to closed position. The clapper 4 is provided with a sealing ring 27 having a series of holes 28 extending therethrough to prevent a buildup of pressure on the back of the ring. In a modification, pressure on opposite sides of the clapper in closed position is equalized through a spring-loaded check valve 30, Fig. 10, mounted in the clapper. The plug is movable through 90 degrees between stops 20 and is lockable in position by a cap ring 34 having a serrated inner face which engages a hexagon on a cover 15, the ring having diametral slots which align with a hole 14 in a spindle of the plug through which a looking pin 39 is inserted and retained by the hasp of a padlock 41 passing through eyes 40 in the pin and ring.
