A rotary atomizer 48 comprises closely spaced discs to which liquid is centrally supplied by nozzles 62, thereby producing a generally vertical disc-like curtain of spray, and a collector scoop 69 intercepts and collects those spray particles directed towards the ground. The apparatus includes a framework mounted at its rear on a bicycle type wheel 41, and includes laterally spaced frame members 42 interconnected by cross-members, and supports the atomizer, its driving engine 50, a liquid supply pump 52 and two laterally spaced cylindrical liquid tanks 53. The latter are supported by rods 56 with threaded ends and nuts extending through tank end plates, and the hub of the wheel 41 is bolted between angle members 57 extending upwardly from the rear end plates of the tanks. Tank outlets 60 are connected to the input of the pump, and the output passes to nozzles 62 on a tube 66 slidably carried in a sleeve 71. The nozzles are fed via pipe 63, valve 64 and pipe 65. A pipe 70 returns liquid to the tank outlets from the scoop, and allows the scoop to be used for filling the tanks; during such filling air escapes from the tanks through an aperture in a flexible pipe 68 interconnecting the tank interiors. The limbs 43 of the frame are splayed out to accommodate an operator who tows the equipment which rests on feet 45 when not in use. For packing and transporting, the frame members 42 may be reversed to bring the limbs 43 and unit 50 over the wheel.
