955,907. Change-speed gearing. BETEILIGUNGS - UND PATENTVERWALTUNGS GESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. July 11, 1962, No. 26731/62. Heading F2D. In a change-speed gear having a clutch K3 between driving 15, and driven 16, shafts for direct main transmission, and a layshaft 10 passing through an hydraulic torque converter 12 and free-wheel 11 to a double clutch K2, K4 to provide an hydraulic starting gear and two mechanical gears, the layshaft may be replaced by a divided shaft 10, 13 of which the power output portion 13 is connected to the turbine 20 of the torque converter and the clutch K3 for the slow mechanical gear is removed to provide a second hydraulic gear. In the gearing, as shown in Fig. 3, the hydraulic starting gear is engaged by clutch K1, the power path being 15, 1, 2, 12, 20, free-wheel 11, 3, 4, forwardreverse shifting gear hub 9, 16; first mechanical gear is provided by 15, 1, 2, 10, K2, 3, 4, 9, 16; direct drive by 15, K3, 16 and higher ratio second mechanical gear by 15, 1, 2, 10, K4, 5, 6, 9, 16. The gear of Fig. 3 is modified, as shown in Fig. 4, by the division of the layshaft into two parts 10, 13, the latter being drivingly connected to the hub 19 of the free-wheel 11, and by the removal of the clutch K2. This provides a first hydraulic gear 15, 1, 2, K1, 12, 20, 11, 3, 4, 9, 16, a second hydraulic gear 15, 1, 2, K1, 12, 20, 19, 13, K4, 5, 6, 9, 16 and a direct mechanical gear 15, K3, 16.
