Abstract

955,435. Mechanical switches, without quick action. TEKTRONIX Inc. Sept. 5, 1961 [June 12, 1961], No. 31879/61. Heading H2B. Transmission lines (e.g. coaxial cables) are switched substantially without introducing reflections by means of a modified rotary switch of known type 20 comprising an insulating annular plate carrying fixed contacts 40 of the spring clip type co-operating with bridging segments on a central disc (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), arranged in the same plane and rotatable by a shaft 12 journalled in a support plate 10 with the usual locating means. Conductive plates 18 and 24 are positioned by insulating spacers 22, 26 so as to lie close on either side of the assembly 20 and are connected to the outer, or grounded, conductors of the transmission lines to be switched, while the signal-carrying conductors are connected to the contacts 40. Thus the switch may have substantially the same characteristic impedance as the lines. Whilst a change-over switch is described it is stated that more contacts may be provided with some loss of symmetry and matehing.
