Abstract
955,119. Fluid-pressure hammers. B. & S. MASSEY & SONS Ltd. July 19, 1962 [July 25, 1961], No. 26830/61. Heading B3H. A counter-blow hammer has a frame comprising two hollow vertical columns 11 located between a base 10 and crown 12 and placed under compression by tie-rods 24 which have been tightened by heating and shrinking. The hammer is preferably of the kind described in Specification 883,046 wherein the upper and lower tups 13 are interconnected by flexible steel bands 15 passing over compensating pulleys 20. Each column 11 is of substantially circular cross-section. Fig. 2, with recesses 16 to receive lugs on the tups 13. The latter reciprocate in guides 14 which are adjustable by screws and nuts 33, 34, 35 and clamped by spring-loaded bolts 27, Fig. 3 (not shown). Tie-plates 36, Fig. 4 (not shown,) at the ends of the guides 14 reduce the load on the clamping bolts if the tups become jammed. Access doors 22 and ladders 23 are provided in the columns.
