954,908. Laminates. BOLT, BERANEK & NEWMAN Inc. March 31, 1960 [Nov. 5, 1959], No. 37575/63. Divided out of 954,907. Heading B5N. A panel structure for providing high transmission loss at frequencies within a desired band of acoustic frequencies comprises a pair of plate-like outer surface members 3, 3<SP>1</SP> made of a stiff rigid material and a plurality of intermediate plates 5 made of a stiff rigid material, which may be different from the material of the surface members, and intermediate layers 4 of material separating the surface members 3, 3 from the plates 5 and separating the plates 5 from each other, the layers 4 being adhered to the surfaces of the members and plates by the application of an adhesive coating, the material of the layers 4 being substantially incompressible but having low resistance to shear to enable it to flex easily in response to shear stress. The surface members 3, 3<SP>1</SP> may be made of sheet steel, the plates 5 of aluminium and the layers 4 of rubber or plasticized synthetic plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride. The adhesive may comprise an epoxy resin. Specification 943,256 also is referred to.
