A vertical shaft lining cylinder comprises a sheet metal casing 2 with horizontally extending annular plates 1 bonded to a concrete shell 4 within the casing by projecting members, arranged in a ring with spaces between them. Figs. 11, 12 show the projecting members 12 extending through apertures 11 in the plates. Fig. 14 shows the projecting members as tubes 13 welded to the plates 1. The projecting members may be dowels (Figs. 8 - - 10, not shown), and may project equally above and below the plates. Plates 1 may extend through the concrete between two concentric steel casings, or end with a flange 3 either flush with the concrete or buried within it (Fig. 2, not shown).
