Abstract

953,175. Bottle closures. METAL CLOSURES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Aug. 17, 1960], No. 28493/60. Heading B8T. An aluminium closure, to retain high internal pressure in a bottle having an external rib as shown in Fig. 5, comprises a top 1 and a skirt 3 ending in an inwardly curled compressed bead 5, a soft gasket 15 being applied to the inner wall of the skirt, the internal diameter of the skirt being slightly less than the mean value of the external diameter of the rib on the bottle, the internal diameter of the bead 5 being, before application of the closure, not less than that of the skirt. Upon application the bead is turned downwards (Fig. 5) to give a secure seal, a rib 2 allowing expansion of the closure if necessary. The gasket 15 may be of polyvinyl chloride plastisol.
