Abstract
952,652. Two-part couplings. BELLING & LEE Ltd. - June 29, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 32278/61. Heading H2E. [Also in Division E2] The slit socket contacts 41 of one half of a connector engage the pin contacts 18 of the mating half within the bores of a clamping member 31, and are then retracted by means of camming members on the two halves into narrower parts of the bores so that they are squeezed about pins 18. The connector comprises plug pin-and-socket supports 17, 40 held respectively in casings 1 and 19, the clamping member 31 fixed in casing 19 and having narrow bores 33 opening into wider bores 34, and pivoted members 43, 44 connected by a bridge 47. When casing 1 is inserted into the lower part 20 of casing 19, a spigot 14 on the former enters a slot 26 and plug pins 18 enter slotted sockets 41 within the wider bores 34 of clamping member 31. The member 43 is pivoted about a boss 28 on casing 19 so that a slot 51 in the former engages spigot 14 and cams casing 1 into the position shown in Fig. 3. The pins 18 are now fully engaged in sockets 41, and a spigot 42 on socket support 40 which protrudes through casing 19 and has hitherto been stationary begins to move back under the action of a part 57 of a second camming slot 54, while the pins 18 continue to move forward correspondingly. The sockets 41 are thus retracted into the narrower bores 33 of member 31 and the slots therein close so that the sockets grip the pins 18. The pivoted member 44 acts similarly on the opposite side of easing 19 and the process described above may be reversed to withdraw pins 18 from sockets 41.
