Abstract

A fertilizer composition comprises 3 oz. of ammonium sulphate and 1 1/2 oz. of potassium phosphate, or corresponding amounts of other salts containing equivalent quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, dissolved in 1 gallon of water to which is added 1/2 to 1/16 of a part of a solution of 1 teaspoonful of phenol in 1 pint of water. The fertilizer may be transformed into a predigested plant food by addition of bacteria-containing material such as vegetable humus, animal manure or mushroom spawn. In a preferred composition, 1 1/2 oz. of mushroom spawn is added to 1 gallon of fertilizer solution, and the mixture left for 5-15 days. A suitable solution for irrigation of soil contains 1 pint of the above predigested food per gallon of water.
