Abstract
951,522. Vaporizers; extra air admission devices. F. CALISTRI. April 26, 1962 [April 26,1961], No. 15941/62. Heading FIB. A device for feeding fuel to an I.C. engine comprises a distributing chamber 3 joined by a channel 4, to an auxiliary air inlet passage 5, a vaporizing chamber 12, open at one end to the distributing chamber and opening at its other end to the engine inlet manifold and means 13 for heating the vaporizing chamber. Fuel/ air mixture from a carburettor 1 is drawn past the normal butterfly valve 24 and a valve 23, through a delivery conduit 2, into distribution chamber 3 where it impinges on a divider 11. The heavier part of the gas stream containing liquid fuel droplets is directed through vaporizing chamber 12, which contains baffles 14, 15 and is heated by the exhaust pipe 13, and through channel 16 into the inlet manifold 8. The lighter part of the mixture is sucked in the direction of arrow B into the passage 5. The inflow of auxiliary air into passage 5 is controlled by the accelerator pedal coupled to a valve 18, compensated by a spring 20 and counterweight 19. The volumes of intake are kept in proportion by interconnected valves 18, 23 and 24. Passage 5 and chamber 12 contain a reserve of gas which ensures a continuous feed. The carburettor may be omitted and a hydrocarbon fuel injected into the conduit 2.
