Abstract
A refractory and heat insulating article is made by introducing into the liquid mix prepared for forming the article preformed hollow particles of a material which can be substantially destroyed by heat, and allowing the mixture to set and subjecting the cast article to a temperature which will destroy the introduced particles. If desired, pre-cast units may first be made, applied where they are required and be heated in situ. A typical mix is (in parts by volume): .P.R. aggregate (i.e. a calcined high alumina. .clay) -.4 .P.R. bond (i.e. a high aluminous cement) -.1 .Expanded polystyrene beads.4 .Clay. 1/4
