Abstract
951,033. Packaging material in bags. PAUL MOORE CO. Ltd. Aug. 24, 1962 [April 10, 1962], No. 32717/62. Heading B8C. Filled bags 4 (Fig. 1) first have their upper edges heat-sealed together at 9, 10 and then the ears 13, 14 thus defined are folded in and welded together at 17 so that parts of the first heat seal 11 overlie other parts. In the machine shown the bag is turned through a right-angle after after the first seal 11 is made, and the centre of the seal 11 is depressed, and the ears 13, 14 folded in, by a fixed plough 12. The heat seal 17 is effected by a heated bar 16 and the weld may extend through to the surface on to which the ears 13, 14 are folded, or this may be prevented by a separating member 15. When the bag is to be emptied part of the ear 13 may be torn out to provide a spout 19 (Fig. 4). The unfilled part of the bag may be evacuated before it is sealed. Only the upper part of the bag may be of heat-sealable material.
