Abstract
950,232. Door fastenings. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Dec. 4, 1962 [Dec. 12, 1961], No. 44508/61. Heading E2A. A retaining device for attachment to a sliding door comprises an elongated member 10 having spaced notches 17 for co-operation with a projection 4 to retain the door in any of a series of positions the elongated member being pivotally mountable on the door and spring urged to an inoperative position clear of the projection 4 and manually movable to operative position, means being provided to fasten the member 10 in the operative position. In the construction shown the member 10 is pivotally attached to a second elongated member 7 which in turn is pivotally attached to a third elongated member 6. In use the member 6 is bolted to an inner panel 2 of the door in a depression 5 and biasing springs 9 and 13 are provided between the members 6, 7 and 10 to retain the member 10 in contact with one or more rubber buffers 14 in the depression. The pivot pin 8 between the two members 6 and 7 is welded to the member 7 so that rotation of the pin causes rotation of the member 7. The end of the pin 8 is cranked so that when it is rotated to bring the member 10 into contact with the projection 4 it becomes trapped behind a spring 15 attached to a rod 16 which operates the conventional door latch releasing mechanism. The spring 13 between the members 7 and 10 enables the member 10 to rest with its free edge in contact with the projection 4 until movement of the door allows the nearest notch 17 to engage with the projection 4 to prevent further motion of the door. The rod 8 is automatically released when the rod 16 is depressed to release the door latch and the spring 9 then rotates the members 7 and 10 until the member 10 comes into contact with the buffer or buffers 14. Pressure on the door handle then enables the door to be moved.
