Abstract

949,582. Feeding sheets. J. GAGG, and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Feb. 23, 1962 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 6879/61. Heading B6B. In sheet-feeding apparatus in which sheets are withdrawn from the bottom of a stack 1 by a rotating friction surface 2 and forwarded to a detecting position B by nip rollers 4, 5, the machine is stopped if no sheet be fed and if a plurality be fed at once. At the detecting position, the leading end of the fed sheet lies in the nip between two rollers 14, 15 the latter being driven. The height of the nip equals the thickness of one and a half sheets so that a single sheet remains in the detecting position but two sheets are immediately withdrawn therefrom to leave the position empty. A feeler 6 is lowered in synchronism with the feed into the detecting position and is normally stopped by a fed sheet in that position; but, if no sheet be there due either to no feed or to multiple feed, the feeler descends further and operates a switch S to stop the machine. Sheets are discharged in sequence from the detecting position by engagement therewith of abutments 21 on a conveyer chain 22.
