Abstract

1294333 Feeding sheets OPTO GRAPHICS Inc 4 Nov 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 53953/69 Heading B8R Sheet-feeding apparatus, particularly for use in electrostatic copying machines, comprises means for feeding edgewise the end sheet of a stack, and guide means against which the sheet is fed, the guide means having at least one protuberance against which the leading edge of the sheet will impinge and snap over and which, in the event of double feed, will arrest the second sheet. The arrangement can be employed where the sheets are fed from the top or the bottom of a stack, or from one end of a stack when the stack is arranged or its side. As shown, soft-rubber coaxial driven rollers 58 carried by pivoted arms rest on the top of the pile 14 and feed the uppermost sheet 16 forwards into the mouth 38 of a channel 40. Feed rollers 42 engage the sheet as it leaves the channel 40. Circular protuberances 60 are stuck up from the guide 22, each protuberance being aligned with one of the rollers 58. When a single sheet 16 is fed from the pile 14, its front edge engages the protuberances 60 so that it first buckles and then snaps over the the protuberance. If two sheets are moved forward by the rollers 58, the top sheet moves over the protuberances, but the underneath sheet is held back. Lateral guides with pads of foam plastic may be provided at the side edges of the pilesupporting plate 10.
