Abstract

949,339. Lubricating. GEO. W. KING Ltd. Dec. 19, 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 40339/61. Heading F2A. A lubricating apparatus for conveyer chains has a mist lubricator, the nozzles of which supply lubricant to the chain; a solenoidoperated valve which controls the supply of pressure fluid to the lubricator; and a control unit having a spring-loaded member which is actuated by the moving chain so as to operate the solenoid and allow a supply of pressure fluid to the lubricator and to effect a discharge therefrom via the nozzles. In an embodiment, the lubricating apparatus has two units 15, 16, the former serving to lubricate wheel and roller assemblies 12 of a chain 10 and the latter serving to lubricate the connecting pins of the chain. The units 15, 16 are connected by a T-connection 18 to pressurized air, via an air filter 19. The connection 18 communicates, via supply lines 17, with air-pressure regulators 20 ; solenoidoperated valves 21; and mist lubricators 22, having Y-connections 23 carrying tubes 24 with nozzles 25 thereon. The nozzles 25 which lubricate the assemblies 12 are received by apertures in the side walls of a track 11 so as to be disposed one at each side of the chain and the nozzles 25 which lubricate the connecting pins are positioned above the chain. Each solenoid valve 21 is actuated by a control unit 26 or 27, each unit having a lever 28 pivoted at 29 with a plunger 30 mounted thereon. The plunger 30 projects through an aperture 31 in one of the side walls of the track 11 and is engageable by side rollers 14 of the wheel assemblies 12 so as to move the lever against the action of a spring 33 and cause a member 35, carried by the lever 28 to close a switch 36 and actuate the solenoid valve 21 so as to cause spraying to be effected. The movement of the lever 28 is limited by an adjustable stop 34.
