Abstract

948,416. Two-part couplings. HARVEY HUBBELL Inc. Feb. 8, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 4875/62. Heading H2E. A connector comprises an insulating base 12 supporting a plurality of unitary metallic contact and terminal members 32, each including a contact portion 36 and an integral mounting portion 40 embracing base 12 to mount the member, mounting portion 40 including means for contacting and frictionally gripping base 12 to retain the member, and a terminal binding screw 30 extending through mounting portion 40 and base 12 and being threadedly anchored in mounting portion 40. As shown, the mounting portion 40 of member 32 fits into a recess 62 in base 12 and consists of two legs 42, 44 and a connecting leg 46. Upper leg 44 has an anchoring tab 56 which fits into a recess 74 and a clearance hole 52 through which a binding screw 30 passes, screw 30 threading into a threaded bore 78 in base 12 and a threaded opening 50 in lower leg 42 which also has two side locating tabs fitting into recesses in the underside of base 12. Upper leg 44 which initially is divergent from lower leg 42 is forced into place after assembly to grip base 12. Two members 32 and a further member (not shown) fit into base 12 which may be assembled into a connector 10 with a top 14 and a cylindrical outer metal shell 16 secured to the base 12 by tie-bolts 18 or may be used as a plug base for a valve or a photo-electric tube having the appropriate elements mounted at the upper legs of the members and an appropriate glass envelope secured to the base.
