Abstract

948,040. Laminates and laminating. DEUTSCHE LAFELGLAS A.G. DETAG. March 20, 1962 [March 24, 1961], No. 10707/62. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] In apparatus wherein a mat 1 of fibrous or filamentary material (e.g. glass fibre) is impregnated (e.g. with a polyester resin) at 6 and is provided, from rolls 7 and 5 with upper and lower cover sheets 8 and 4 which are pressed on to the mat by rollers 7<SP>1</SP> and 7<SP>11</SP>, a number of substantially parallel threads 11 are secured to a stationary member 10 and pass between the roller 7<SP>1</SP> and the mat so that the mat is dragged along the threads and the possibility of rupture at the nip of rollers 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP> is decreased. The threads 11 may be made of steel, glass, a polyester or a plastics material such as nylon. An array of threads may be provided on both sides of the mat.
