Abstract

947,734. Drawing wire. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Sept. 19, 1961 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 33560/61. Heading B3P. A stripper for a wire drawing block comprises a central body member, a plurality of frame members pivotally supported by said body member, and means for adjustably positioning said frame members at each of several radii from the central body member. A shaft 10 has slidably mounted thereon a sleeve 14 which has a pair of lugs 16. Pivoted to the lugs is a bifurcated hooked lever 18, which engages a cross-pin 20 in the shaft. Also pivoted to the sleeve 14 are four links 24 to the outer ends of which are pivoted frame members 26 which have hooked ends 26a. A further sleeve 30 is adjustably mounted on the sleeve 14 and is connected by links 28 to the links 24. Four further links 34 are connected between the frame members and a fixture 32 secured to the rod 10. The sleeve 30 has three holes therein to receive a grub screw 42 and the sleeve 14 has two grooves 38 and 40 so that by selecting the appropriate combination the frame bars 26 may be set at the desired radius. When the stripper is mounted on a drawing block DB, the hook ends 26a lie in grooves in the block and the pin 20 is engaged under the lever 18. When the desired size of coil has formed the stripper is lifted by crane, and as it is lowered at the new position the lever 18 engages a stop and rotates in a counterclockwise direction so as to disengage the pin 20 which allows the frame bars 26 to collapse inwardly. In a modification the frame bars 26 may form a truncated cone converging upwardly.
