A bed comprises a support frame 10, a bed surface 15, 16 pivotally attached to the frame about a transverse axis intermediate in the length of the surface, the surface being in two parts 15, 16 pivotally connected about a transverse axis, a hydraulic or pneumatic ram 25 operating between the frame 10 and the bed surface to effect pivotal movement of the surface as a whole about the first axis, a second ram 21 operating between the two parts 15, 16 of the surface to effect relative movements thereof about the second axis, means for supplying pressure fluid to the rams and control means therefor. The two pivot axes may be coincident and provided by pins 19 (Fig. 1). The rams 21, 25 may be of double-acting piston type and have control means to direct the pressure fluid to one face or the other of the piston of either ram. There may also be a single pump 26, which can be operated by a pedal 27, which delivers pressure fluid to the control means from whence it is directed to the selected ram or piston face thereof. An upright support 40 for a drip bottle or the like is pivoted to the head 16 of the bed surface and has an effectively parallel linkage connection to the frame 10, thereby to retain the support 40 upright during pivotal movements of the bed surface 15, 16.
