Abstract

946,453. Brush-holders for dynamo-electric machines. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 12, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 24306/60. Heading H2A. A spring arm 18 urges a brush 2 into contact with a disc-type collector 7, the brush being spaced from the wall 9 of the brush holder by an inwardly projecting curved lug 8 which enables the brush to tilt so as to make " flat " contact with the collector. A pressure point 12 between the spring and the brush is displaced in the direction of the collector motion so that the spring provides a torque 17 to counteract the torque 14 produced by the frictional force of the collector. When the brush is worn the spring is prevented from damaging the collector by lug 8. This construction permits a " flat " contact of brush and collector even when the brush holder is not perpendicular to the collector (Figs. 3, 4, 5, not shown).
