Abstract
1,031,271. Contact brakes for electrical machines. CARBONE (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. Jan. 1, 1965 [Jan. 2, 1964], No. 228/64. Heading H2A. For an electrical machine an electrical contact brush comprises a piece of hard material having opposed edge portions embedded in and carried by resilient material and a suspended intermediate portion for receiving a spring pressure finger which applies to the resilient material a shear stress. As shown, the hard material is either a metal or a resin-bonded insulating plate 5, the resilient material comprises two rubber blocks 3, 4, and the brush is split into two or more carbon parts, the plate and blocks being bonded together and to the brush. The blocks may be split, the brush top may be bevelled, and in Figs. 5 . . . 6, not shown, an angled plate riveted to one brush part has a portion embedded in rubber blocks in the remaining parts. Instead of being in a recess the plate and blocks may be on top of a flattopped brush.
