Abstract

945,822. Scaffolding. DEE-JAY BRACKETS Ltd. April 19, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 14791/61. Heading E1S [Also in Division A4] A pressed steel scaffolding or shelving structure comprises upright columns 10, hollow and of square cross-section, in whose walls are formed louvres 11 with apertures 13 which are engaged by hooks 24 at the ends of platform supporting members 20. Members 20 comprise a web 21 with down-turned flanges 22, 23 with grooves 28, 28a and 29 defined by walls 26, 26a and 27. Platform or shaft 30 comprises a rectangular metal plate of dimensions equal to the length of members 20 with down-turned flanges which engage grooves 28, 29. Side walls 35 may be fitted into grooves 28, 28a of upper and lower members 20. Columns 10 may be superposed one on the other using internal sleeves 36 which rest on tongues 24 and may be secured by bar keys 45. When the structure is used to support planking, flanged stiffening gusset plates are inserted at the corners by fitting their flanges into grooves 28 or 29. When used as scaffolding the structure may have members 20 of square or circular section without flanges. In another embodiment the platforms have downturned tabs which engage in louvres provided in the supporting members, and side walls are slid down grooves, in strips attached to columns 10 and have tabs to engage the louvres. Structures with polygonal platforms are disclosed.
