Abstract

945,662. Cigarette-making machines. K. KÍRBER. April 26, 1962 [June 16, 1961], No. 15963/62. Heading A2C. A cigarette rod cutting mechanism comprises a cutter holder fastened to a rotary shaft and a blade displaceable in the holder and clamped thereto by centrifugal presser means. A cutter holder 1, Fig. 1, fastened to a rotatable shaft 2, has a slot 4 in which a blade 5 is displaceable. A presser roller 11 is rotatably mounted on a forked angle lever 9 which is hinged, by means of a spindle 8 passing through bores 7 in lugs 6, to the holder 1. The yoke of the lever 9 carries a pin 12 on which a block 12 is fastened by screws 14. In operation, the shaft 2 is driven and rotates the holder 1 at high speed causing the block 13 to be pressed in the direction of the arrow 15 owing to centrifugal force, whereby the roller 11 is forced against the blade 5 in the direction of the arrow 16. In another embodiment, Figs. 7 and 8, inclined guides 69 support a spindle 70 which carries two rollers 65. Compression springs 71 force the rollers 65 through recesses 72 into engagement with the blade 5. On the opposite side of the blade 5 rollers 76 adjustable by means of a worm drive 77 and shaft 78 are mounted. Four further embodiments are described. A driving mechanism for the cutter, Fig. 6, comprises a driving casing 51 to which a grinding wheel holder 52 with a grinding wheel 53 and a deburring wheel 53a are fastened. The rotatable shaft 2 is mounted in the casing 51 and driven through a bevel drive 54 from a driving shaft 55. A cutter support 56 is mounted on the shaft 2 and a cutter holder 58 pivotally mounted about a shaft 59. Rocking of the cutter holder 58 is effected by means of a Cardan joint, not shown, the shaft 60 of which is rotatable in an adjustable bearing 61. A reciprocable cutting tube 80 is provided.
