Lengths of soft tubing made from rubber or synthetic plastic material are cut by feeding the tubing T between an internal mandrel 18 and a coaxial external sleeve 19 and rapidly drawing a taut wire cutter 16 closely past the ends of the mandrel and sleeve whilst simultaneously internally supporting the tree end of the tubing P by an impinging divergent stream of fluid J supplied under pressure through the centre of the mandrel. The taut wire cutter is mounted at the end of an arm 8 which is rotatable at high speed in a plane transverse to the mandrel axis. The temperature of the jet of fluid, which is usually air under high pressure, may be such as to cool the cut length of tubing. Specification 944,615 is referred to.
