In a process-timer e.g. for a washing machine, asynchronous motor 110 Fig.2 which is located behind a panel 14 drives a shaft 38 on which is located a timing card 35 having arcuate slots 36 of predetermined location and length. The card 35 is held by a pressure plate 45 secured to a bearing plate 76 mounted on a shaft 70 extending from a bearing block 68 of the central transparent part 54 of the hinged door 12 of the housing 10 Fig. 1. A spring 72 presses the plate 45 against the card 35 so that a radial line of microswitch actuators may engage the rear surface of the card 35. A spring pressed stud 82 carried by the door 12 engages the card adjacent the actuators and presses it against two studs 44 extending from the. panel 14. The door is held in the closed position by a latch 24 or by a magnetic latch mechanism. The door has a gap 64 to allow manual rotation of the plate 45 to align the radial line 100 in the card with a radial pointer 102 carried by the door. A bank of manually operable overriding switches 18 and toggle switches 20 and 22 for turning on the power supply and the electric timer motor are located on the panel above the door 12 and a safety switch 30 is located for actuation by the door.
