In a swimming pool type reactor, a separate duct is provided, in the water, to carry specimens to be subjected to core radiations. The immersed duct is flexibly connected to a fixed duct outside the reactor wall. Carbon dioxide gas is circulated round the circuit formed by the two ducts and a radiation detector in series with the fixed outer duct measures the radio-activity of the carbon dioxide, induced by the test specimen. The gas pressure is automatically regulated by valves controlled from a pressure sensitive relay device. Specification 943, 755 is referred to.
