943,695. Disc brakes; fluid-pressure control of brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. June 6, 1962 [June 6, 1961], No. 20423/61. Headings F2E and F2F. In a disc brake having a fixed caliper supporting a pair of pads 7 for simultaneous movement towards and away from opposite faces of a disc 3, the pads are applied through rocker arms 15, 16, one or more of which are located on opposite sides of the disc, the arm or arms 16 being pivoted centrally on a pivot 18 fixed in the calliper, and the arm or arms 15 being pivoted centrally on an applying member movable transversely to the plane of the disc, and a tappet rod or other interconnecting means is movably mounted in the caliper between the outer ends of the or each pair of rockers 15, 16, whereby when the applying member is moved the pads 7 are moved against opposite faces of the disc with equal pressure. The applying member is preferably an hydraulic piston 11 which carries the pivot 17 at one end and has its other end acted on by pressure fluid in chamber 13 of a cylinder 14. A piston-rod 20 secured to the piston extends through a sealing gland 21 in the cylinder 14 to a hand-brake (not shown). The pads are supported in the caliper by balls 8 engaging grooves 9 in the caliper and in the pads, to provide a self-servo action.
