Abstract
943,610. Dental engines. DENTALWERK BURMOOS G.m.b.H. March 8, 1961 [March 9, 1960], No. 8459/61. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B3] A collet, primarily for use in the chuck of a turbine type dental drill, comprises a tubular sleeve 1, of resilient material, having longitudinal slots 3 extending inwards from one end and with the resultant tongues 12 bent outwardly at a point approximately half way along their length. When these tongues are compressed radially and the collet is inserted into the driving sleeve 8, until a collar 5 bears against the end of the sleeve, the central portions of the tongues become bowed inwardly so as to be capable of gripping a tool shank inserted in the collet while exerting an outward pressure on the sleeve 8 to obtain the necessary frictional drive. A divided collar 4, at the open end of the collet, prevents its accidental withdrawal from the driving sleeve. In a modified collet for use in single-ended driving sleeves, it is retained by projections on the outer side of the resilient tongues engaging in an annular recess in the sleeve.
