Abstract

1,202,004. Ion beam tubes. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. 27 Feb., 1969 [4 March, 1968], No. 10661/69. Heading H1D. An ion detector, e.g. for use in a mass spectrometer or ion vacuum gauge, comprises a conical electrode 11 which is bombarded on its inner surface by the ions 4 to produce electrons and a scintillator phosphor screen 15 which is bombarded by the electrons to produce light. The conical electrode 11 serves also to focus the electrons on to the screen. The screen has a thin pinhole-free aluminium coating 16. The detector includes a tubular metal body 2 and a frame 6 for the glass window 7.
