Abstract

When a hoist drum 43 is rotated clockwise, cables 46, 47 are both wound on to it so that a rake mechanism travels upwards along a bar screen 12, and vice versa. To rotate the rake teeth 29 into operative position, a hoist drum 44 is rotated anticlockwise, whereby cable 47 is unwound therefrom, lowering pulley block 39 a little, and cable 46 is wound thereon, raising pulley block 38. These movements result in the rotation anticlockwise, about a pivot 33 on the mechanism, of a lever 34 ; this lever is linked (at 36 and 37) to the rotatable shaft 31 on which the teeth are mounted. Successive positions of the shaft and teeth during this operation are shown in dotted lines at the foot of Fig. 1. In the operative position of the teeth they form with a closed back 26 and side plates 27 a box in which debris is collected ; the debris is discharged into a removable receptacle 24 by retracting the teeth when the mechanism is located over a gap between guides 48 forming a continuation of the bars 12.
