Abstract

The invention comprises 1-(4-chloronaphthyl)-N-methylcarbamate The compound may be prepared by (a) reacting chlorinated 1-naphthol with phosgene in the presence of a base preferably caustic soda to form the corresponding chloroformate which is then reacted with mono methylamine to form the required carbamate or (b), by reacting chlorinated 1-naphthol with methyl isocyanate in the presence of an anhydrous inert solvent and a catalyst.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprise as active ingredient 1 - (4 - chloronaphthyl) - N - methylcarbamate and an inert solid carrier, e.g. clay, chalk, talc, bentonite or fuller's earth or a liquid carrier, e.g. water, or a petroleum distillate. The active ingredient may be dispersed in a liquid carrier as a solution in an inert solvent, e.g. in acetone toluene xylene or kerosene. Surface-active agents may also be included in the composition.
