Abstract

940,458. Thermoelectric devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 28, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 31135/60. Heading H1K. In a method of making a thermoelectric device of the kind comprising an array of thermoelectric elements 1 connected by conductors 2 to provide a set of hot junctions and a set of cold junctions disposed respectively on opposite sides of the array, each set of junctions being in thermal contact with, but electrically insulated from, a plate-like heat exchange member 3, the conductors 2 are first provided on one face of each of the heat exchange members, the conductors thus being relatively predisposed before they are connected to the thermoelectric elements 1. The electrically-insulating layers 4 may be of resin or of plastic tape having adhesive on both sides or may be provided by anodizing the inner surfaces of the heat exchange members 3. The conductors 2 may be metal straps or may be formed by removing metal from a metal plate. The completed assembly may be potted in a heat-insulating material.
