Abstract
939,188. Distilling sea water. NINEX INGENIOR A. S. May 8, 1962 [May 13, 1961], No. 17599/62. Class 32 In a plant for distilling sea water under vacuum on board ship wherein the cooling water of the ship's engine 1 is used as heating- medium in heat-exchanger 4 to boil sea water introduced into the heat-exchanger through line 5, and the boiling sea water flows into liquid/vapour separator 7, the separated steam enters condenser 10 where it is condensed by direct contact with a spray of distilled water which has been previously cooled by heat exchange with sea water in a heat-exchanger of the plate type 13. The distilled water is circulated around the circuit comprising the condenser 10 and one of the flow-paths of heatexchanger 13 by means of pump 12; and sea water is supplied through inlet 16 to the other flow-path of heat-exchanger 13. The distilled water product is pumped out of the condenser through outlet 18. The residual brine is withdrawn from separator 7 via outlet 8.
