937,177. Differential gearing; toothed gearing. RICHARD THRELFALL Ltd. Aug. 15, 1962 [Aug. 15, 1961], No. 29380/61. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (2). A worm gear 2, driven by an electric motor 1, has two output shafts 3, each carrying an axially slidable gear 6 engaging a gear 8, restrained against rotation, and an output gear 4 which on axial movement of the gear 6 may be engaged or disengaged. The gearing may be applied to the driving wheels of a vehicle such that on starting helical teeth on the gears in conjunction with the torque resistance of the gear 8, held against a friction surface 10 by a spring 11, produces axial movement of the gear 6 to engage two of the toothed surfaces 12 with corresponding teeth 13 of the gear 4. On overrun, or when turning a corner, helical interaction of the teeth moves the gear 6 to an intermediate position to disconnect the drive.
