936,161. Feeding grains singly; suction feed and delivery. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Jan. 25, 1961 [Jan. 27, 1960; July 21, 1960], No. 2926/61. Class 78 (1). Grains are removed from hopper 10 by the fingers 3 of rotating wheel 2 and are released over hopper 12 and deposited therein. Each grain then falls into recess 13 of rotary disc 15 so as to be delivered to measuring apparatus 17. Apparatus 17 operates trap devices 14 beneath the recesses 13 to effect a sorting of the grain. As shown, fingers 3 are carried by a hub 2 which rotates round spindle 1. Suction is introduced at 8 and air at atmospheric pressure is introduced at 9. Each finger 3 carries a sliding cap 5 influenced by spring 7. The suction within the finger 3 attracts and grips a grain at 11. This blocks aperture 11 and the suction within causes movement of cap 5 inwards of finger 3. The finger 3 therefore rotates carrying the grain until it comes into engagement with air at 9 at which the cap 3 is forced outwards and discharges the grain into hopper 12. Alternatively the fingers 3 may be carried so as to reciprocate or may be supported on a horizontal rotary disc. Again they may collect grains from one conveyer and discharge them on to another conveyer.
