Abstract
935,123. Metallurgical converters. SOC. DES FORGES ET ATELIERS DU CREUSOT. Jan. 25, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2917/61. Class 72. [Also in Group XXXIV] Shoes coacting with the interior and exterior of a rim attached to a tilting member are applied by a jack to brake the member, the brake may be locked to the rim and actuated by a second jack to provide limited tilting. A steel converter 1 has a trunnion ring 2 carried on rollers 3 and driven by a reduction gear (not shown). The ring 2 has a rim 5 engaged on its exterior by a brake shoe 6 and interior by the brake shoes 8, the shoes being carried on a shaft 20 of which the journals 22 for the shoes 8 are eccentric to the journal 19 for the shoe 6. Two levers 24 keyed to the shaft 20 are connected by a pin 25 to one end of a jack 27, the other end of which is connected to the shoe 6. The shoes are carried in a released and centred condition on the rim by rollers 10, 16 engaging the exterior and interior of the rim and spring- loaded by springs and guides 12, 13 and 17, 14 respectively in the shoes 6 and 8. Braking torque produced by energization of the jack 27 is resisted by a second jack 31 connected between the shoe 6 and the converter frame 4. When the brake is locked to the rim, limited tilting movement of the converter can be made by actuation of the jack 31.
