Abstract
932,381. Radiators for heating buildings. IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd. Dec. 15, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958; Sept. 10, 1959], No. 42658/59. Class 64 (2). A radiator having a number of sections interconnected at their sides has, for restricting the heating of the radiator, a valve 28 for disconnecting one section or passage or more from the rest, to act as a by-pass for the flow of heating medium between an inlet 9 and an outlet 29. The medium from the inlet 9 flows around a tube 10, which interconnects a first section 6 and a third section 8, and flows up a second section 7. When the valve 28 is in the position shown, the medium passes through all the sections to the outlet 29, although there may be a small clearance between the valve and the aperture 19 in which it is shown located, for a leakage of medium directly to the top of the first section 6 to release any gas in the medium. When the valve 28 closes the port 20 in the nipple between sections 7 and 8, the medium flows directly to the top of the first section 6 and the outlet 29. The sections are shown interconnected by nipples 17 having an exterior thread but they may be interconnected by welding or press-fit nipples.
